Today there are many options for personal, yet dignified, funerals. There is no right answer for each family; what might work best for one family, may not work at all for another; each family will have specific needs. We can help to arrange a less traditional or formal funeral service for families who desire a more personal way to express grief and say goodbye to loved ones, or to meet the most exacting traditions and rituals. Funerals can be held in a family member's home, place of worship or other meaningful place. We also encourage family members or others to take an active role with the proceedings, so that the service will provide a comforting memory to them.

Together, we will create a special service to remember the attributes or passions of your loved one, special memories shared, achievements, and important people in this celebration of life. To personalize the ceremony, we will guide you through the visitation, eulogy, music, readings, procession, committal service, and intimate gathering or reception.

Consider:

• Writing a personalized obituary.
• Creating a column in the guest book for people to jot down a memory after they sign their name.
• Having more than one person deliver the eulogy.
• Choosing clothing for the person who died that reflects his or her life, interests, passions, etc. The clothing needn't be formal or somber.
• Creating a personalized program for the ceremony. You can include photos, poems, and anecdotes — whatever you'd like.
• Selecting flowers that were meaningful to the person who died.
• Creating a funeral that captures the personality of the person who died. If he was zany, don't be afraid to use humor.
