Adele Marie Kirsch

Funeral Service for Adele M. Kirsch (Nowjak) age 95 of Willoughby will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 5, 2013 at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Avenue, Willoughby.

Mrs. Kirsch passed away Monday, July 29, 2013 at Lake West Hospital in Willoughby, surrounded by the people she loved most. Born July 8, 1918 in Cleveland. Mrs. Kirsch was a U.S. Army Veteran. She proudly served her country as a Corporal, working at the Pentagon. She was honored to say she met her husband while together in the U.S. Army. She was also a long time supporter of the “Women in Military Service for America Memorial Foundation.”

Mrs. Kirsch was employed by Willoughby-Eastlake Schools as a Nursing Assistant. She lived most of her life in Ridge Acres in Willoughby and was one of the original members of the Ridge Acres Association.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Willoughby for over 50 years. There she was a member of the Choir, the Lutheran Women Mission League, Sociables Senior Bible Study and yearly honored by RSVP for her efforts with The Sunshine Bible Study Group for Breckenridge residents.

She also loved being a member of Willoughby Browning Senior Center where she was one of the “One Liners” performing line dancers and in the Browning Performing group “Senior Singers”. She was also a Red Hatter.

In 1993 Mrs. Kirsch was honored as Grandparent of the Year by Manor Care for the City of Willoughby, when her young grandchildren submitted a lovely letter about their grandma.

She loved sports. She played tennis and bowled. From 1939-1945 she played Semi Pro Basketball with Blepp Cooms Sporting Goods and The “Chislers”, winning many titles. Adele was also an avid Cleveland/Lake County sports fan, trying to never miss a game.

Survivors include her daughter Christine (fiancé Brian Holladay) Smith of Willoughby; grand-daughters Jaime (Christopher) Ingram of Mentor and Cayce (fiancé Brian Bounce) Smith of Willoughby; great-granddaughters Kailynn and Brynleigh Ingram; former son-in-law Terry Smith of Mentor; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband John Kirsch; daughter Lynn Marie Kirsch; sisters Ida Gronert, Lucia Grisard, and Olga Hall; brothers Robert and Walter Nowjak.

Family will receive friends 2-5 p.m. Sunday, August 4th at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in care of the family. Online obituary at www.davisbabcock.com
