Alice May Channell

Alice May Channell (née Baker) of Mentor, 79, died January 14, 2025.


Alice was born June 12, 1945 in Cleveland, Ohio to Edna Scheuring Baker and John Kenneth Baker. She was an only child.


Alice married her high school sweetheart, Bill Channell. They had a wonderful life together for 45 years. They enjoyed going to the movies and traveling. They had gone on 21 cruises together. She had a beautiful singing voice and even did a solo on an album her high school choir made.


Alice always kept busy whether it was helping Bill with is remodeling projects, tending to her plants, playing cards, getting together with school friends or cousins, going on a cruise with her friends or going out to dinner with O.W.L.S. friends.


Alice was a beautician who owned her own salon for many years, worked as a corrections officer at the Lake County jail as well as an administrator at Governors Point Nursing home.


Alice is survived by her children Cynthia J. Kurzinger (James) of Mentor and James S. Channell (Joanne) of Pepper Pike, five grandchildren, Jonathan Kurzinger (Erin) of Bristow, Virginia, Steven Kurzinger of Willowick, Amanda Washburn of Geneva, Sarah Marrie (Jarrod) of Mentor and Kayla Channell of Pepper Pike as well as 13 great-grandchildren.


Her parents and husband preceded her in death.


Private graveside services for immediate family will be held will be held January 23, 2025 at Mentor Municipal Cemetery.


Family and Friends are invited to join the family for a memorial luncheon for Alice at 1:00p.m. at the Old Council Hall located at 7250 Jackson Street in Mentor.


There will be no calling hours as Alice is being cremated per her request.


Flowers are not necessary.

Please join the family for a luncheon to celebrate Alice's life. Old Council Hall is located on Jackson Street in Mentor, just north of Mentor Avenue, next door to the Mentor Fire Museum and across the street from the rear of the former Mentor Christian Church building.
