Alvina M. Sulecki

November 11, 1937 — October 11, 2022

Alvina passed the morning of October 11th, 2022 peacefully in her sleep at Brookdale assisted living in Mentor, Ohio.

Born in Cleveland, Ohio on 11/11/1937, she moved to Eastlake, Ohio where she lived for fifty years before moving to Austinburg, Ohio in 1992 until 2018.

Mom met her future husband as a child when she said she would marry him someday. Childhood sweethearts grew up and finally did marry on July 3, 1955. Edward J. (dad) and Alvina (mom) married and started their family in Yuma, Arizona where Dad was a member of the United States Air Force. Their first child, daughter, Deb, was born in Yuma in 1957, followed by their first son, Edward J. Sulecki III in 1958. After receiving orders to be stationed in Florida, their third child, son, Dan, was born in 1959.

After the military, mom and dad moved back to Ohio, where their sons Jim and John were born in 1961 and 1963, respectively.

Mom and Dad raised their family here, and when their kids grew up, they decided to pursue their dream of country living. They built a home in Austinburg, Ohio, and lived out their dream in the country. Dad passed in December, 2013, but mom remained in their home until health issues forced her into assisted living in 2019. Brookdale assisted living in Mentor, Ohio, was home to mom until her passing; she enjoyed her time there.

The folks at Brookdale were great to her and she expressed many times how much she loved the caregivers there. Our family is grateful to Brookdale for making mom feel safe, secure, and loved during her time there.

During her younger years mom loved doing crafts, from wood to ceramics and stained glass. She also loved her dogs, of which she had many over the years. She also loved to sing and was very good at it. Mom had a deep faith and loved her Lord and savior, Jesus Christ. We know she is in heaven, reunited with her loved ones who passed before her.

Hospice got involved in moms care in mid-August providing relief for her pain, as well as emotional and spiritual support – our family is grateful for their support.

She was a private person, keeping to herself and her family. Our thanks to the many people who reached out and showed kindness to her over the years.

Mom was preceded in death by the love her life, our dad, Edward J. Sulecki II, who passed away in December of 2013. Also by her mother Victoria Terry, and brother Earl Terry. Also preceded by June Sulecki, wife of Dan Sulecki, who passed in 2015.

Mom is survived by her brother Robert (Jackie) Terry, of Florida, as well as her five children: Deb (Cliff) Smith, Ed (Donna) Sulecki, Dan Sulecki, Jim (Karen) Sulecki. John (Vicky) Sulecki; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

There will be a private graveside service for Alvina where she will be placed next to late husband Edward, in All Souls Cemetery.
