Memorial services for Anthony S. Ocepek, 76, of Waite Hill Village will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, July 11, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church of Willoughby, 4785 Shankland Rd., Willoughby.
Mr. Ocepek died July 3, 2015 at Hillcrest Hospital.
Born August 3, 1938 in Barberton, he was a resident of Waite Hill for 30 years.
He was a 1956 graduate of Wadsworth High School and Kent State University in 1961 with a degree in communications. He was a proud Army veteran.
Mr. Ocepek was a businessman and entrepreneur. He started his career in the communications industry at Westinghouse Broadcasting, then formed his own corporations that purchased radio stations including WPVL in Painesville and WQAL in Cleveland. He was involved with paging systems, cable TV, cellular, and wireless carriers. In addition to broadcasting and communications Mr. Ocepek had an interest in real estate development including the Heisley Center Corporate and Industrial Park in Mentor, OH.
Mr. Ocepek was active in many business and service organizations including Lake County Development Corporation, Lake County Historical Society, and the corporate board of the Holden Arboretum. He was a former trustee of the Lake County Parks Foundation and Phillips-Osborne School and a former member of the Board of Trustees for Mt. Holyoke College and the Waite Hill Land Conservancy. Mr. Ocepek donated his home in Kirtland Hills, now known as the Children’s Schoolhouse Nature Park, to Lake Metroparks in 1988.
Mr. Ocepek loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed nature and the outdoors and believed strongly in environmental education.
Survivors are his wife of 35 years Margaret (Benes) Ocepek, children Beth Ocepek of W. Palm Beach, Mark (Tara) Ocepek of Fernandina Beach, and Paul (Dara) Ocepek of W. Palm Beach; 7 grandchildren Abby, Bryce, Jack, Evan, Erin and Chloe, and Halle Colbert, and former wife Marcia Johnston of W. Palm Beach. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Josephine Ocepek.
There will be a private family burial at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family encourages contributions to Lake Metroparks for the Children’s Schoolhouse Nature Park or to a charity of one’s choice.
