Arthur C. Sydow, Jr., 92, passed away on March 20, 2021 at the Fairmount Health
Center at Breckenridge Village in Willoughby.
Arthur was born in Cleveland, OH to Arthur Sr. and Elsie (Degenkolb) on January
24, 1929. He spent his childhood in Euclid, OH before attending and graduating
with a B.S. in music from Baldwin-Wallace College in 1950 where he met his
beloved wife, June.
He taught music in Strasburg, OH for a year before serving in the Armed Services for two years in Korea. In 1957 he received his master’s degree in music from the University of Michigan and later did graduate work at Kent State University.
In 1953 Arthur became the band director at Shore Jr. High and in 1972 he was
promoted to Coordinator of Music and Director of the Euclid High band. He
remained at this position until 1986. He also was the Euclid Civic Orchestra
director for 13 years.
Arthur had been a resident of Mentor for 53 years where he and his wife were
active members of the Mentor United Methodist Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening and attending Cleveland Orchestra concerts.
He is predeceased by his wife of 63 years, June and son Stephen. He is survived by
his son, John Sydow, daughter, Lynn Lehto, and grandchildren Samantha and
Graydon Lehto.
A private burial will be at the Mentor cemetery.
