Betty M. Hoye

February 7, 1928 — January 15, 2021

Services for Betty Mae (Ice) Hoye, 92, of Willowick, will be at 11 AM on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Nottingham Baptist Church, 2921 Bishop Road, Willoughby Hills.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 10-11 AM on Thursday at the Church. Masks will be required while visiting the Church.

Betty Mae (Ice) Hoye entered the Kingdom of her Heavenly Father gracefully the morning of January 15, 2021 enveloped in love at the home of her granddaughter, Bianca, and her great-granddaughter, Kiera with whom she lived with for the better part of her 92nd year. Her final journey was supported by her eldest grandson Joel, two dear friends, and the dedicated staff of Hospice of the Western Reserve.

Betty was born in Mannington, WV, on February 7, 1928. She spent much of her life in service to others. The fifth of nine children, Betty entered the workforce at Westinghouse in Fairmount, WV.

As fate would have it, her taxi driver, Wilbur was also her lifelong love. The couple settled in Willowick, OH where they raised their family.

Betty retired from Roosevelt Elementary and dedicated herself to community service endeavors in her parish, Nottingham Baptist Church, where she worshiped since 1955.

A longtime resident of Breckenridge Village, she met many dear friends and was recognized for more than 1000 hours of community service.

Betty enjoyed quilting and crocheting for those in need, daily walks with friends and her award-winning Wii bowling league.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Dewey and Bessie Ice; her husband, Wilbur; her brothers, Daniel, Robert, and Bert; and her sister, Marie Cattley.

She is survived by her beloved sisters, Nancy Toothman, Alma (Nathan) Taff, Jo Bereksazi, and Kay Leeson; daughter, Deidre Lee (Shane)Ryan; son, David Scott (Nancy) Hoye; grandchildren, Alana Betty (Mario) Luna, Jansen (Amanda) Musselman, Andrew (Emily) Hoye, Aaron Hoye, Holly Hoye, Heidi Hoye; ten great-grandchildren; and 24 nieces and nephews.

Betty will be remembered for many reasons, including playing any game you wanted (as long as she could win), for giving the best head rubs, making the most delicious homemade strawberry jam, and mystery of putting all her leftovers in old margarine containers.

She had a sly sense of humor and frank way of looking at the world that made her truly one-of-a-kind. Betty was a woman of great faith and has waited patiently to once again be with her beloved Wilbur. She will be missed immensely.

Her final resting place will be in the Ice Family Cemetery in Mannington, WV at 1 PM on Friday, January 22, 2021.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to Hospice of the Western Reserve, Inc., PO Box 72101, Cleveland, OH 44192-0002 or online at www.hospicewr.org/tribute
