Memorial Services for Charles Haskell, 78, of Kirtland, will be at 11:30 AM on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Avenue, Willoughby.
The family will receive friends from 10-11:30 AM on Saturday, prior to the memorial service at the funeral home.
Charles passed away Thursday, April 25, 2024.
Born July 22,1946 in Cleveland, he was raised in Willowick, and graduated from Eastlake North High School. He has lived in Kirtland for the past 48 years.
He attended Lake Erie College and The Ohio State University. He served in the United States Navy from 1966 -1969 and was stationed in DaNang, Vietnam.
He was a proud member of the Wickliffe Rotary. He enjoyed working on the Rotary and Wickliffe Chamber of Commerce College Scholarship Committees for high school students. He was a legendary negotiator for LAB, Learning About Business program for high school students at Lake Erie College.
Charles was an avid college football and Cleveland Browns fan. He was a historian with a near photographic memory and was always watching programs on the History Channel and reading historical books.
He was also an excellent chess player. He particularly enjoyed working on family genealogy projects with his son Rich, having deep social, historical or political discussions with his daughter Lauren and brother Bill; hiking and traveling with his wife Mary; playing pinochle with her and friends Teri and Marv, and spending time with his grandsons Will and Reed and his cat Lucky. He was very sociable, knowledgeable, and dependable, and will be dearly missed by family, colleagues and friends.
Charles was the Human Resource Director at the Hall Chemical Company in Wickliffe. After his retirement there, he continued to work in Wickliffe for many years as the Director of the Wickliffe Chamber of Commerce and later the Director of the Wickliffe Civic Center.
Survivors are his wife of 52 years, Mary; brother, William (AZ), son, Richard (NJ), daughter, Lauren (CA), and grandsons, Will and Reed. He also leaves his nephew, Brian and his family and his cousin, Henri and his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ann.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandsons Will and Reed, his brother-in-law Paul and sister-in-law Paula and cat Lucky.
