Memorial services for Charles R. Tice, 84, of Willoughby, will be at 2 PM on Monday, February 21, 2022 at Mentor United Methodist Church, 8600 Mentor Avenue, Mentor.
The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM on Monday prior to the service.
Mr. Tice passed away Monday, January 17, 2022.
Survivors are his loving wife of 62 years, Gretchen (Cornelius) Tice; children, Christine (Dragan) Dugandzic, Raymond (Jenny Day) Tice and Sharon (Peter) Elliott; grandchildren, Connor, Sabrina and Adam Dugandzic, Bridget and Peter “PJ” Elliott, and Kimberly and Andrew Tice.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Gertrude (Hall) Tice and his brother, Joseph Tice.
Born April 6, 1937 in Erie, PA; he grew up in Millcreek, PA where he met Gretchen when they were in high school. He graduated from Thiel College in Greenville, PA where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon and shortly after graduation they were married. They moved to Cambridge, MA where he earned his Master of Business Administration from the Harvard Business School.
After moving to the Cleveland area, he was an auditor with Arthur Andersen & Co. and earned his CPA certification. After six years of public accounting and auditing experience, he joined Warner and Swasey as Assistant Controller and within two years he became Controller of the company which had 30 divisions reporting to him. He closed the corporate offices when the company was bought out by Bendix.
He did some consulting for a few years and then became Controller of a much smaller company, Ohio Caliper, Inc., for six years, retiring when that company was sold to a New York Investment firm.
Chuck was a dedicated, hard worker and enjoyed life too. In his younger years, he was skilled at home improvement, winemaking, camping, boating, woodworking, stained glass, and glass fusing. Faith was an important part of his life. He was a member of Euclid Lutheran Church for 50 years, before joining Mentor United Methodist Church over 10 years ago.
Over the years, Chuck and Gretchen traveled across the country with their family. After retiring, they spent ten winters alternating between Florida and Arizona. They shared the beauty and friendship of 49 states of this country.
A private family burial will be held at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Erie, PA.
The family encourages contributions to The American Diabetes Association, The American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
