Bob passed away on Thursday July 14th, surrounded by his family.
Born July 7, 1927 in Parkersburg, WV, he lived in Wickliffe for more than 50 years.
He graduated from the Willoughby Union High School in 1945 and earned letters as a halfback in football and as a guard on the WHS 1945 Lakeshore League Champion basketball team. After graduation, he joined the United States Maritime Service and transferred to the United States Marine Corps. After 1948, he returned to Willoughby, working at Ohio Rubber Company until he went on to work 20 years for TRW Corporation as a Quality Control Technician. He then worked for 10 years as Recreation Director for the City of Willoughby, and five additional years as a Utilities Supervisor for Lake County Utilities Department
Bob was an avid fan of all local High School sports. His hobbies involved following harness racing, coaching Christ Lutheran Church softball teams and watching the Ohio State University, Cleveland Browns and Indians games.
Survivors are his wife of 66 years, Jean (Jarmusch) Vaught; his four children, Diane Miller, Claudia Pryzybylski, John Vaught and Sandy Thompson; grandchildren, Kevin Miller, Jason and Jordan Vaught, and only granddaughter, Natalie Thompson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edith Hughes and Clifford Vaught; his brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Victoria (Sivarolli) Vaught; and his sister, Marion (Vaught) Hughes.
Bob was a strong believer in self-determination, as well as being a leader and a strong believer of “family.” His family was his “mission” in life.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Bob’s name to Christ Lutheran Church.
Semper Fidelis.
