Daniel R. Sherman

Memorial services for Daniel Ryan Sherman, 36, of Medina, will be at 11 AM on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at the Medina Performing Arts Center, 851 Weymouth Road, Medina. Dr. Dave Tennant of Medina United Methodist Church will officiate at the service.

Dan passed away suddenly after collapsing during a workout at Root18 CrossFit on Tuesday, June 3, 2014.

He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, teacher and coach, a man who was treasured by many.

Dan was a teacher at Waite Elementary School for the past five years, and previously at Root Middle school, both in Medina, since 2002. He was also an assistant football and baseball coach for medina schools.

He was a graduate of Willoughby South High school, class of 1996 and Ohio University, class of 2001. He went on to get a master's degree from Nova Southeastern University in 2007. He was honored as a master teacher in May of 2012.

Survivors are his beloved wife, Alissa D. (Ales) Sherman, whom he married on August 7, 2004; children, Caleb, age 6 and Lauren, age 5; mother, Susan Sherman (Jim Vaughn) of Willoughby; brother, Timothy (Tanya) Sherman, Jr. and their children, Karisten, Timmy III, and Brody, of Willowick; sister, Peggy Sherman and her children, J.T., Jacob and Jayla of Willoughby; in-laws, Kelly and David Ales of Nashville, IN and brothers-in-law, Eric (Brittany) Ales and Joel Ales.

He was preceded in death by his father, Timothy J. Sherman, Sr. on November 28, 1997.

The family will receive friends from 1-8 PM on Monday, June 9, at Medina United Methodist Church, 4747 Foote Road, Medina.
