David L. Henning, Sr.

Services for David L. Henning, Sr., 92, of Willowick, will be at 11 AM on Monday, June 17, 2024 at Bethel Lutheran Church, 32410 Willowick Drive, Willowick. The Rev. Donald P. Beaumont will officiate at the service.

The family will receive friends from 9-11 AM on Monday, prior to the service at the Church. His wishes were that everyone wear bright colors to the celebration of his life.

Mr. Henning passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2024.

Born June 7, 1932 in Willoughby, he was a lifelong Lake County resident.

He was a charter member of Bethel Lutheran Church, where he had served as President, Treasurer, Sunday school superintendent and as a trustee. He was also a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Orlando, Florida. He served in the Ohio Armed National Guard, and was an avid bowler, golfer and a huge sports fan.

David will be remembered for his kindness and generosity.

He and his wife, Arlene enjoyed spending time with their family and especially their grandchildren; he also enjoyed the twelve years he lived at Caribe Cove in Florida, where he served on the board of directors and made many friends while he lived there.

Mr. Henning was employed as a store manager by Sears, Roebuck and Company, retiring in 1992 after 42 years of service.

Survivors are his children, Darrin Henning and Debbie (Robert) South; grandchildren, Amanda Marie (Jon) Kruse and Alexander James Henning; great-grandchildren, Malachi Jon and Mackenzie Christine Kruse; brother, Norman (Nancy) Henning and sister, Mardy Powell. He also leaves many nieces and nephews and their families.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Arlene J. (Bush) Henning on September 21, 2004 and his son, David L. Henning, Jr. on October 15, 2021. His great-granddaughter, Madalyn Arlene Kruse; parents, John L. and Alma (Brabander) Henning and siblings, Lenore, Jack, Herb, Ruth, Paul and Daniel are also deceased.

Final resting place will be in Western Reserve Memorial Gardens, Chester Township.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to Bethel Lutheran Church.
