Donald R. “Don” Jackson, age 86, of Willowick, Ohio, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2026, in Willoughby, Ohio. Born on July 29, 1939, in Cleveland, Ohio, Don lived a full and vibrant life marked by dedication to his family, career, and community.

Don graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1957 and went on to build a successful career as a metallurgist. He worked for many years at Chandler Products in Euclid, Ohio, before continuing his professional journey at Flexalloy in Streetsboro, Ohio. His expertise and commitment to his work left a lasting impression on those who had the privilege of working alongside him.

A devoted husband and father, Don is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Joan. Together they raised four children: Dawn Roche (Kevin), Karen Jackson (Steve Harbert), Tony Jackson (Yolanda), and Darlene Smiddy (Dave). Don was also a proud grandfather to Kyle Roche (Allie), Matt Roche, Raquel Smiddy (Paden Rudd), and Ryan Smiddy. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, Kinsley and Paige Roche. Don also leaves behind many extended family members and friends.

Don was predeceased by his mother, Theresa Jackson, and his brother, Charlie Jackson. Their memories remained close to his heart throughout his life.

An active member of his community, Don made significant contributions to local sports leagues. He was a long-time coach in the Eastlake Girl’s Softball League and played an instrumental role as a founding member of the Willoughby Women’s Softball League. A lifelong sports enthusiast, Don was an avid Cleveland Indians/Guardians fan who rarely missed a game. In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling and golfing, and later found pleasure in watching sports, spending time with family, and taking great pride in caring for his yard.

Don will be remembered for his kind and loving nature as well as his great sense of humor. He had a gift for making people smile and feel welcome, and his warmth touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Private family services will be held. Final Resting Place will be at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Twp., Ohio.

Family suggests that donations be made in Don’s memory to The Miracle League of Lake County.
