A memorial service to celebrate the life of Donald R. (Butch) Stein, 82, of Mentor, will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Mentor United Methodist Church, 8600 Mentor Avenue, Mentor.
Mr. Stein passed away Saturday, April 30, 2022 at UH West Medical Center in Willoughby.
He was born on October 17, 1939 in Buffalo, NY. Don had lived in Buffalo and Rochester, and moved to Mentor in 1977.
Don was an active member of Mentor United Methodist Church for 30 years, serving on multiple committees.
He and Ginny, his wife, enjoyed serving on mission trips. He was a proud United States Army veteran. Don adored his dog, Rusty, and loved birdwatching, especially bluebirds and hummingbirds.
Mr. Stein was a salesman in the food service industry. After retirement, “Deputy Dawg,” as he was affectionately known, served as a deputy bailiff for former Judge Richard Swain in the Mentor Municipal Court.
Survivors are his wife of 53 years, Ginny (Heaton); son, Kevin (Maggie) Stein and grandsons, Hank and Gus Stein of Bozeman, MT; daughter, Kelly Stein of Mentor; brother, Ted (Maryann) Stein and sisters, Sheila Hess and Rosemary (Charlie) Planz. He also has many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Rosemary (Cunningham) Stein.
