Services for Donald J. Stuart, 88, of Chesterland, will be at 11 AM on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Avenue, Willoughby.
Mr. Stuart passed away Friday, March 7, 2014.
Born December 8, 1925 in Cleveland, he has lived in Chesterland for more than 60 years.
He served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Cod as Sonarman Third Class during World War II. He was instrumental in providing personal history and facts crucial to the development of the USS Cod Submarine Memorial in Cleveland.
Mr. Stuart was a Senior Reverse Engineer at the former U.S. Steel Corporation and later worked in research and development at the former Warner & Swasey Company.
Survivors are his wife of 63 years, Twila M. (Bierman) Stuart; daughters, Heather (John) Van Vliet of Willoughby and Holly (Paul) Speyer of Chesterland and son, Marshall (fiancée, Shannon Andrews) Stuart of Temecula, CA; grandchildren, Melanie (Doug) Briggs, Melissa Speyer, Kendall Stuart and Bradley Stuart and great grandchildren, Grady and Ellie Briggs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Mary Stuart.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at the funeral home. Final resting place will be in Riverview Memorial Park Cemetery in Russell Township.
