Memorial service for Dorothea V. ( Rossignuolo aka Rossen) De Petris, 95, of Lakewood, will be 2 PM Sunday, May 21, 2017, at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Ave., Willoughby.
Family will receive friends following the ceremony until 4 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
Dorothea passed away on May 12, 2017, after a long illness. Born July 30, 1921, in Olwein, Iowa, she resided in Lake County for over 60 years.
She was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Church, until her passing. Dorothea retired at the age of 59 from General Motors in Hudson. Following her retirement, she spent the next 30 years volunteering for Lifeline at Lakewood Hospital, at Playhouse Square as an usher, and in other civic duties. She enjoyed reading more than anything and up until her passing, was reading an average of two books per week. She was also an avid fan of cable news, especially the Rachel Maddow Show. She contributed to charitable causes, public tv and radio, and was compassionate for all disadvantaged and minority individuals.
Dorothea is survived by her daughter, Cynthia de Petris and her family of Edgar Pease and their children, Darby, Merrisa, Cheyenne, Dillon, Dakota, and their grandson, Damon; and Cynthia’s sister, Celeste de Petris Thomasson. She is also survived by her niece, Rita (David) Myers and her family, Michelle (Ken) Swartz and Andrew, Holly, John, and Debi Lambdin; and her dear friend, Mary Nance.
She was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Carolyn D. Brunetti; parents, Michael and Pasqualina (Conte) Rossignuolo aka Rossen; brothers Henry, Hubert, and Earl Rossignuolo aka Rossen; son, Gary De Petris; and her lifelong friend, Tony Patt aka Petti.
Interment 11:30 AM Monday, May 22, 2017, at Willoughby Cemetery, 4145 Madison Ave., Willoughby.
