Dorothy Ferguson, age 87, passed away on March 20th 2025. She was preceded in death by
her beloved sons, John and Thomas, and her husband John.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Fagan, four grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren.
Born on December 28, 1937, in San Luis Obispo, CA, “Dot” dedicated her life to her family,
church and community.
She was a beloved children’s librarian for more than twenty yearss serving in the Willoughby-Eastlake Public Library System. Her love of books fostered a deep love for reading throughout generations.
The Ferguson Family joined Grace Epicopal Church in the fall of 1972 and Dorothy was still
active until her final days. In the early years at Grace she taught Sunday School, was a member
of St. Anns, and volunteered for numerous other activities including the first Seder Meal
Celebration on Maundy Thursday. I can still see the freshly shredded horseradish that exploded
all over our kitchen which was to be used for the bitter herbs during the meal. She also
contributed to the needle work for the altar rail kneelers. In her later years, she knit prayer
shawls, helped with the widows group and sang in the choir. Her faith in GOD and love for the
Church was quickly evident to all who knew her.
She was known for having a quick sense of humor, eating anyone under the table, and making
a friend wherever she went.
We invite you to join us for the Memorial Service celebrating the life of Dorothy Ferguson at
10:30 on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at Grace Episcopal Church, 36200 Ridge Road, Willoughby, OH. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her honor to either Grace Episcopal Church,
Willoughby, OH or The Friends of the Willoughby-Eastlake Public Library (earmarked for the
Children’s Rooms), 32 Public Square, Willoughby, OH 44094.
