Dorothy Jane Scott

December 18, 1922 — February 17, 2016

Services for Dorothy Jane (Slater) Scott, 93, of Willoughby, will be at 1 PM on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Willoughby United Methodist Church, 15 Public Square, Willoughby.

Private family burial will be held at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens, Chester Twp.

Mrs. Scott passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2016.

She was born December 18, 1922 in New Concord to William Guy Slater and Carrie Mae Stockum.

She was a 1940 graduate of New Concord-Union High School, a 1944 graduate of Muskingum College and taught at schools in Belmont County. She met the love of her life, George C. Scott and after they married she continued working in northern Ohio, helping to put him through Case Western Dental School. The two were married 41 years and they loved traveling together.

Dorothy was a longtime member of Willoughby United Methodist Church. She loved gardening, cooking, spending time in nature and enjoyed watching wildlife. She continued to love traveling, music and dancing.

Survivors are her children; John (Patty Santa) Scott, Anne (Leonard) Bowers and David (Sharon) Scott; grandchildren John Bowers, Carrie Bowers, Hannah Scott and Olivia Scott.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. George C. Scott; grandson, Nathaniel Scott and brothers, Dwight, George, Emmett and Robert Slater.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Ave., Cleveland 44110, or the Holden Arboretum, 9500 Sperry Rd., Kirtland, OH 44094.
