Services for Douglas M. Skursha, 68, of Willowick, will be at 10 AM on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at The First Presbyterian Church of Willoughby, 4785 Shankland Road, Willoughby.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 PM on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Avenue, Willoughby.
Mr. Skursha passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at his home.
Born April 5, 1953 in Cleveland, he was a lifelong Lake County resident.
He was a member of the Ohio National Guard for 12 years, earning the rank of Sergeant and enjoyed hiking and walking his rescue dogs. He was an avid sportsman, enjoying all sports, especially basketball, ping-pong and playing, teaching and coaching chess. He owned a vast vinyl record and movie collection.
Mr. Skursha was employed as a teacher in the Cleveland Public Schools, where he taught primarily history and geography, specializing in middle and high school grades. After retirement from teaching, he worked at the News-Herald and enjoyed working as a caddy at Kirtland Country Club for several years.
Survivors are his wife of 20 years, Lily; step-children, Marie Perez and Ricky Donovan; step-grandchildren, Devin Pope, Anastasia Pope and Kaleb Gariba; brother, David (Sue) Skursha; nephews, Bryan (Liz) Skursha, Dan Skursha, David Skursha and Brett Skursha and great-niece, Eleanor Skursha.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Victoria (Pasquale) Skursha.
Final resting place will be in Mentor Cemetery following the service on Wednesday.
