Memorial services for Edward W. Haney, 90, of Mentor, will be at 11 AM on Friday, March 8, 2024 at Kirtland Christian Fellowship, 10001 Chillicothe Road, Kirtland. Pastor Tim French will officiate at the service.
The family will receive friends from 10-11 AM on Friday at the church prior to the service.
Mr. Haney passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2024.
Born July 12, 1933 in Cleveland, he lived in Mentor for the past 64 years.
He was a United States Army veteran, serving in post-war Germany.
Mr. Haney was employed as an inspector at the former Terex Division of General Motors in Cleveland for 30 years and then became the maintenance director at the Fine Arts Association in Willoughby until his retirement.
He was a storyteller his entire life, telling ghost stories and humorous tales around the campfire and at numerous family and church gatherings. He acted in, and later directed, plays in several community theaters, including Rabbit Run. He became a local celebrity for his portrayal of President James A. Garfield at many events in the region, and co-founded We Made History, a troupe of first person living historians who portray various presidents and First Ladies.
Survivors are his wife of 68 years, Vivian (Huggins) Haney; children, Edward A. (Marjorie) Haney, Vicki L. (Mel Jr.) House and Vivian L. (Michael) Sarkis; grandchildren, Nicole (Ryan) Greer, Danielle (Michael) Sharpnack, Arielle (Andrew) Hieronimus, Jarrod House, Lauren (Rafael) Perez and Anthony Sarkis; eight great-grandchildren and his niece, Margaret Sottosanti, who he loved like a sister.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward H. and Esther Lee (Rankin) Haney.
Final resting place will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville, Ohio.
