Elaine T. Barnard
October 31, 1964 – July 31, 2026
Elaine T. Barnard, age 61, passed away leaving a tremendous void in the hearts of her family, friends, and the many community organizations she so selflessly served. Born on October 31, 1964, Elaine spent the majority of her life in Willoughby, Ohio, where she grew up and graduated from Willoughby South High School. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Daniel and Barbara Barnard.
An angel on earth, Elaine’s life was defined by her kindness, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to serving others. Her lifelong passion for community service began as a teenager at the Lake County YMCA. It was there she learned that the greatest gifts we can offer one another are our time, talents, and treasure. Elaine took that lesson to heart, living a life deeply rooted in the value of volunteerism. She possessed an extraordinary gift for encouraging others and making a positive difference. Whenever there was a need, Elaine was there.
Elaine was also a remarkably talented, self-made graphic designer. Her ability to create something beautiful and impactful from a simple idea was a true gift to many. She used her creative talents to support countless organizations with promotions, professional imaging, and branding. Elaine lived by the motto, “Creativity is intelligence having fun,” a sentiment famously captured by Albert Einstein, and she brought that joyful spirit to every project she touched.
Her commitment to giving back extended far beyond the YMCA, reaching non-profit community organizations both near and far. She dedicated her life to uplifting others, leaving an indelible mark on groups such as the Lake County YMCA, Lake County Humane Society, Camp Ho Mita Koda, and Extended Housing Inc. of Painesville. Elaine also generously donated her professional expertise through Catchafire, providing vital pro bono design work to causes across the country.
Elaine’s legacy of love, creativity, and service will live on in the community she helped shape and in the hearts of those who loved her. She is survived by her beloved cousins, Kathy Wood of Valparaiso, Indiana, and Christopher Wood of Albuquerque, New Mexico, as well as a host of dear friends and colleagues.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Mayfield United Methodist Church located at 7747 Mayfield Road, Chesterland, OH. A private burial will take place separately.
In honor of Elaine's lifelong dedication to community service and in lieu of flowers, it is suggested that you volunteer your time or make a financial contribution to your favorite non-profit organization.
