Elsie Elaine Blazek

Elsie Elaine (Henderson) Blazek, 101, passed on peacefully in her sleep, on September 22, 2024.


Elsie was born on July 11, 1923, to the late Howard N. and Mildred Jane (McMillen) Henderson. She grew up in Maple Heights, along with her younger sister, Marilynn (Ned, deceased) Stull (deceased). She graduated from Maple Heights High School.


She enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps on October 18, 1943, and was honorably discharged as a Sargeant on November 15, 1945. She returned home to Maple Heights, met John Dan Blazek and they were married on January 4, 1947.


They moved to Mayfield Heights in 1951. They were to have two sons, John H. (1953-) and Curtis L. (1955-1979). They all then lived in Mayfield Village, Eastlake and finally, Timberlake.


Elsie worked part time as the financial secretary of Mayfield Methodist Church in Mayfield Village and then as a secretary in the Mayfield City Schools High School from 1969 to 1989. At this point in their lives, John and Elsie were RVing around the U.S. and Canada.


John and Elsie moved to Breckenridge Village retirement community in 1991 and moved to assisted living there in 2021. They were married 76 years when John passed away in September 2023.


Elsie is survived by her son John, nieces, Michal Stull (Rick) Everist, Beverly Blazek (Bob) Hottois, Betsy Blazek (Tony) Pasquino, nephews, Tim (Kathy) Stull and Mitch (Christy Sugerman) Stull, and sisters-in-law Sally (Clint, deceased) Blazek and Sue (Ron, deceased) Blazek. There are also numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.


There will be a graveside service (time to be determined), no viewing and no memorial service. Any donations are to be made to your favorite charity.
