Services for Emerson S. Heinz, 88, of Mentor, will be 11 am Monday, July 9, 2012 at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Avenue, Willoughby.
Mr. Heinz passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at Starkey Place in Painesville. Born July 28, 1923 in Willoughby Twp., he was a lifelong area resident. Mr. Heinz was a United States Army veteran, serving in the WWII battles of the Rhineland and Central Europe and receiving two Bronze Stars. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Willoughby. He and his wife Agnes were the last two surviving charter members of the American Legion, Post 678 of Willowick-Eastlake. He was also a member of Willoughby Lodge 302 F. & A.M., Al Koran Shrine, Valley of Cleveland and the VFW Post 6518 of Chardon.
For years Mr. Heinz was a nationally recognized award winning salesman for Cadillac dealerships in Painesville. Prior to the auto industry he was also well known as the longtime owner of Heinz Egg Service, supplying eggs throughout Lake and Cuyahoga counties.
Survivors are his devoted wife of 68 years, Agnes (Kelly) Heinz; children Dale Emerson Heinz of Norton and David Kelly (Bobbie Hollingsworth) Heinz of Willoughby; grandchildren Brian (Anna) Heinz, Kelly (Mike) Sherman, Matt (currently serving in Afghanistan)(Josie) Heinz, Leah Hollingsworth and Hannah Hollingsworth; 7 great-grandchildren; and sister Evelyn (Tice) Ozinga.
His parents, Henry Frank and Alice (Korver) Heinz and 7 brothers and sisters are deceased.
The family will receive friends from 2 - 6 PM Sunday, July 8, 2012 at the funeral home. American Legion services will be at 5:30 pm. Final resting place will be in Whitehaven Memorial Park, Mayfield Village.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Starkey Place, (Agnes' current residence) 270 Mentor Ave., Painesville 44077, or to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Ave., Cleveland 44110.
