Faith L. Thornburg

Services for Faith L. (Overholt) Thornburg, 89, of Mentor, will be at 11 AM on Thursday, March 5, 2026 at Mentor Baptist Church, 7500 Johnnycake Ridge Road, Mentor.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 and from 10-11 AM on Thursday at the Church.

Faith passed away peacefully in her husband’s arms on Sunday, March 1, 2026.

Born May 19, 1936 in Willoughby, she was a lifelong Lake County resident.

Faith was employed as a teacher in the Kirtland School System and later transferred to the former Lincoln Elementary School in Wickliffe. She considered teaching a calling and ministry, not a job, and wanted to make a difference in the lives of her students. She retired with 33 years to her credit.

She was a Charter Member of Mentor Baptist Church, where she has served in nearly every capacity, and volunteering on every committee throughout the years. Her mission was to fulfill the calling that God, through her Lord Jesus Christ, gave her as a believer. In the book of Matthew, Chapter 4, Verse 19, Jesus told his disciples to follow Him and He would make them fishers of men; and she, as we all do, as a personal command to do just that as believers. Her intent was to settle for nothing less than that, because of her love for her Lord and people.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Danny L. Thornburg. She also leaves many friends so close that she considered them as family members.

Faith was preceded in death by her father, Leon Overholt and her mother Hildred (nee: Carl) (Overholt) Hartmann. Her brother, Mark A. Overholt and nephew, Troy Overholt and her aunts, Eunice Betler, Gladys Washburn and Esther Mae Carl are also deceased.

Final resting place will be in Mentor Cemetery following the service on Thursday.
