Frank Larry Black, Jr.

A service to celebrate the life of Frank (Larry) Black, Jr., 94, of Mentor, will be held on July 6, 2024 from 4-7pm, with a Masonic Memorial Service at 6:30pm at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Avenue, Willoughby.

Frank passed away peacefully on June 17, 2026 at the Cleveland VA Medical Center surrounded by his four loving daughters.

Born May 30,1932 in Cleveland, he lived in Mentor for 24 years and previously resided in Euclid.

Frank was a United States Marine Corps veteran and served in the Korean War.

Frank was employed as a brake switchman for Conrail Railroad in the Collinwood Yards in Cleveland, retiring after 30 years. He also operated a painting and wallpapering business for 40 years.

He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Cleveland Shriner’s International Organization and The Elk’s organization.

Frank was an avid Cleveland Indians Fan and never missed a televised game. During his teenage years he worked at the Cleveland Municipal Stadium selling peanuts and witnessed the 1948 World Series games.

Frank is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years Nancy L. Black, parents Frank Black Sr. and Irene (Szuch) Sherwood and sister, Carol Speicher.

Survivors are his daughters; Lynne (Herb) Arko; Dawn Lyons (Ron Tada), Joy Black and Bonnie Vaidean. Grandchildren: Renee Arko, Nicole (Matt) Prusky, Amanda (Bryan) Greer, Kevin (Brianna) Kapel, Dayna (Scott) Mitchell, Joey (Fai) Tada, Duncan Vaidean, Angela Vaidean and 8 great grandchildren.

Private family interment at Knollwood Cemetery.
