Genevieve Bretz Griffin

Funeral services for Genevieve Bretz Griffin, 97, of Willoughby, will be at 12 PM Saturday, March 15, 2025 at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Ave., Willoughby.

Family will receive friends 10 AM-12 PM Saturday at the funeral home.

Genevieve passed away peacefully March 10, 2025 in Willoughby, after a fall two months prior. She was born September 3, 1927 in New Waterford, Ohio.

Genevieve was a Registered Nurse at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cleveland. She then took a break to raise her two children, Allen and Regina. Once they were grown, she returned to nursing at University Suburban in a pediatricians’ office. Working until she was 84 years young, she saw three generations of patients.

Gen was a lifelong member of Willoughby United Methodist Church. She was an excellent pianist and played until recently. She was known to many as “Auntie Gen”, “Nurse Gen”, and was “Grandma Gen” to 5 granddaughters, 3 great-grandchildren, with one more to arrive in June. She truly loved being with her family and never turned down an invitation to be with everyone.

Survivors include her children, Allen Edward (Cathy) Griffin and Regina Griffin (Michael) Denk; granddaughters, Jennifer Caroline (Dallas) Moss, Allison Elizabeth (Ricky) Grycan, Emily Catherine Griffin, Megan Genevieve Denk, and Lauren Kathryn Denk; great-grandchildren, Aspen Delaney Moss, Cal Griffin Grycan, Samuel Reed Grycan, with one more Grycan on the way. She was the youngest of three sisters and she kept close with her 7 Bretz nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Milburn “Mel” Allen Griffin Jr. and sisters, Madeleine Wilhelm and Kathryn Griffith.

Final resting place will be in Acacia Park Cemetery in Mayfield Heights, following the service.
