George W. Tegner, III passed away on November 16, 2022 at Cleveland Clinic Medina Hospital. George was preceded in death by his wife, Gail in 2003 and his parents, Doris and George Tegner, Jr.
He graduated from Willoughby South High School and continued on to Wentworth Military Academy and graduated from Kent State University. He worked at his family business, Tegner Implements in Willoughby.
George was a member and three-time Past Master of Willoughby Masonic Lodge 302. He also served as a Past District Deputy, Grand High Priest of Royal Arch Masons Chapter 231. He was a recipient of the York Rite Cross of Honour, one of the highest awards in Masonry and also served in many leadership capacities in affiliated Masonic organizations.
George is survived by his cousins, Marilyn (Rick) Fox of Willoughby; Charlie (fiancé, Stephanie) Fox of Willoughby and Susan Tegner of Michigan. He is also survived by his loving Masonic brother, Ed (Rita) Zollars of Eastlake; sister-in-law, Linda (Jeff) Downs of Willoughby Hills; nephews, Mike (Melissa) Downs of Chardon; Craig (Christy) Downs of Chardon and Steven Tegner; great nephews and nieces, Colin, Liam, Madelyn and Eve Downs of Chardon. He also leaves his brother Larry (Judy) Tegner of Willoughby and many cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 PM on Sunday, December 11, 2022 at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Avenue, Willoughby. Masonic services will be conducted at 3 PM, during the calling hours. A private family burial will be held.
There wasn’t a dog that George could not befriend. In lieu asks that donations be made to the Lake Humane Society, 7564 Tyler Boulevard, Unit E, Mentor, OH 44060 or the Western Reserve Masonic Community, 4931 Nettleton Road, Medina, OH 44256.
