George Albert Trebets

Mass of Christian Burial for George A. Trebets, 90, of Mentor, will be at 9:30 AM on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at Saint John Vianney Catholic Church, 7575 Bellflower Road, Mentor.


The family will receive friends from 3-7 PM on Friday, February 7, 2025 at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Avenue, Willoughby.


Mr. Trebets passed away Thursday, January 30, 2025.


Born April 8, 1934 in Export, PA, he lived in Mentor for more than 45 years.


He was a United States Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict, earning his honorable discharge in 1957. He was a member of the Gents Club, Saint John Vianney Catholic Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and taught PSR classes.


George also coached many youth sports, and served as an officer with the Lake Catholic Athletic Boosters, started the Mentor Basketball Association, played men’s softball and was a member of SNPJ Lodge 604 Utopians. An avid storyteller, gardener, Polka and Waltz dancer and he enjoyed his coffee klatch gatherings at McDonalds. He was proud of his Slovenian heritage.


Mr. Trebets was employed as an electrician with CEI for 43 years, retiring in 1994.


Survivors are his children, Diana (Bill) Ashworth, Eddie (Gina) Trebets, Kathleen Trebets and Theresa (Anthony Discenza) Naska and grandsons, Colin, Dylan, Braden, Jaxson, Lou and Sonny. He also leaves his former wife, Gerri Trebets and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his son, Frank; parents, Frank and Agnes (Dolence) Trebets and siblings, Josephine, Frank, Anselma, Edward, John and Margaret; and son-in-law, Matt Naska.


Private family burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery at a later date.


In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to The Ronald McDonald House, 10415 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44106.
