Guy T. Speakman

Funeral services for Guy “Tom” Speakman, 87, of Willowick, will be at 7 PM on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Ave., Willoughby.

The family will receive friends from 3-7 PM on Thursday, prior to the service at the funeral home.

Guy was born on March 7, 1935, to Roy L. Speakman and Agnes Louise Clark. He lived in Greenfield, OH before moving to Cleveland in 1948, where he met the love of his life, Darlene. Of course, she was only 8 years old at the time. Their families became very close friends. Guy joined the U.S. Air Force at the age of 18. After the service, he worked at Republic/LTV Steel for 38 years. Tom and Darlene married on May 7, 1960.

Tom and Darlene were very involved in the V.F.W. with Tom holding positions as Commander of Willoughby Post 1500, Commander of Lake Geauga County Council, Past Commander of District 7 and Department VAVS Representative of Wade Park VA Hospital.

Tom was a three-time cancer survivor and it wasn’t until he had lung issues that he had to slow down and stop volunteering. But during these years, Tom and Darlene made many life-long friends.

Tom was survived by his loving wife, Darlene; children, Guy T. Jr., Katherine (Tim) Krince, Cynthia (Scott) Fortuna and John; five grandchildren, Rebecca (Clay), Katie, Ashley (Kevin), Joseph (Caterra) and Amy; five step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Jaynell (Dan) and Kay. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Fred, Charles, Arnold, Emily, Shirley, and Margaret.

Burial will be held at 11 AM on Monday, March 6, 2023 at Whitehaven Memorial Park, 615 SOM Center Rd., Mayfield Village. A luncheon will follow at Pineridge Country Club.
