Jack Allen Wheeler

Jack Allen Wheeler (aged 96), residing at Breckenridge Village in Willoughby, Ohio, and formerly of Hilliard, Cortland, and East Liverpool, Ohio, died December 26, 2024, at Lake West Medical Center, Willoughby, Ohio, following a brief illness.

He was born May 28, 1928, in East Liverpool, the son of Ward and Mary Wheeler.

A graduate of East Liverpool High School in the Class of 1946, he had worked as a metallurgist at Crucible Steel Company in Midland, PA. He was a member of the First Church of Christ (Disciples) in East Liverpool, where he had served as an elder, custodian, and teacher. He recently belonged to Perry Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Perry, Ohio. He enjoyed reading, walking, and spending time with family and his many friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Mary Ellen Wolfe Wheeler, whom he married on May 25, 1951. He is survived by a son, the Rev. Dr. Jeffrey A. (Barbara) Wheeler, of Mentor, Ohio, and a daughter, Debra E. (William) Malchano of Wilmington, North Carolina. He has five grandchildren: Dr. Jonathan Wheeler (Paris, France), Mary Elizabeth VanBoxel (Mentor, OH), Dr. Jack Wheeler (Granville, OH), James Cushing IV (Wilmington, NC) and Andrew Cushing (Wilmington, NC) and seven great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were two sisters: Grace (Robert) Fugate and Betty (William) Wucherer, and his special niece, Joan Adam.

A memorial service, officiated by the Rev. Betty Sivis, will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 3, 2025 in the Lyons Chapel at Breckenridge Village, 36859 Ridge Road, Willoughby, OH 44094. Visitation is one hour prior to the service. A committal service will take place at Riverview Cemetery in East Liverpool, Ohio, at a later date.
