Graveside services for James C. Carpenter Jr., 81, of Willoughby, will be 10 AM Saturday, June 26, 2021 at Evergreen Cemetery, 350 Eastwood St., Geneva. (Section 9)
Family will receive friends 5-8 PM Friday at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Ave., Willoughby.
James passed away June 19, 2021 in Mentor. He was born May 18, 1940 in Ashtabula.
In 1985 he was the first to canoe solo across Lake Erie. He canoed over 5,000 miles in his lifetime, mostly in Northern Ontario. In keeping with his love of the outdoors, he raised and sold evergreen trees on his farm in Pennsylvania.
He graduated from Cleveland State University with a Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering and worked for CEI for over 20 years.
He was a member of the Willoughby-Eastlake School Board for 28 years. He bottled and sold Carpenter Honey to four health food stores and fifteen groceries in Cleveland, Geneva, and Ashtabula.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Florence L. (Kellogg) Carpenter; daughters, Linda (Keith) Stuessi and Laura (Vivek) Khosla and grandchildren, Brock, Maya, Vinay, and Nikhil.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James C. and Velma E. (Rhodes) Carpenter Sr. and his brother, David C. Carpenter.
