Services for James Donald Miller, Sr., 78, of Wickliffe, will be at 10 AM on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Avenue, Willoughby.
Mr. Miller passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at his home, surrounded by his family, under the care of Crossroads Hospice.
Born November 22, 1936 in Bellaire, OH he has lived in Wickliffe for the past 55 years.
He was a member of the former George A. Holly Lodge 745 F. & A.M. now merged with Temple Lodge 28 F. & A.M. in Painesville. He was also a member of the Eagle Shrine Club, Al Koran Shrine and Scottish Rite Valley of Cleveland. He served in the National Guard for several years and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels in Lake County. He volunteered as a driver transporting children to the Shriner’s Hospital in Erie. He enjoyed fishing and continued his love of baking for family and friends.
Mr. Miller was a baker by trade, operating his own shop, Beach Home Bakery in Cleveland, for several years, and then working for local grocery stores, such as the former Pick-n-Pay, Fazio’s and most recently Giant Eagle.
Survivors are his wife, Margaret Lender; sons, James (Jane) Miller, Jr. of Wickliffe and David (Jody) Miller of Dallas, TX; granddaughters, Jordan Marie Miller and Andrea (Johnny) Petersen; grandson, Philip (Julie) Pape; six great-grandchildren; brothers, William L. Miller of Kirtland and Tommy (Della) Miller of Los Angeles, CA and sister, Margaret “Peg” (Gene) Holland of Sacramento, CA. He also leaves a niece, Gail Bobish of Concord Twp., and other nieces and nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris, in December, 2000. His parents, James T. and Lucy Marie (Galloway) Miller are also deceased.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 PM on Friday, (today), at the funeral home. Brethren and friends of Temple Lodge 28 F. & A.M. will conduct Masonic services at 7:30 PM today at the funeral home. The Rev. Steve Arsulic of Eagleville Bible Church will officiate at the service on Saturday. Final resting place will be at Crown Hill Cemetery in Twinsburg following the service on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to Shriners Hospital for Children, 1645 West 8th St. Erie, PA 16505.
