Jim passed in peace at the age of 79. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Mildred; sister, Bonnie (Pavlovic) and late wife and mother of his children, Maija (Ozolins).
He is survived by his loving wife, Marye Etta; children, David and Kristin (Means); bonus children, Heidi (Andrews) and Jason (Hill); brothers, Fred and Chuck; four grandchildren and one bonus grandson.
During his free time, Jim could often be found puttering in his barn or basement workshop designing his signature wooden turned bowls, pens, and Christmas ornaments. When not puttering life away, he would be diligently checking the stock market, vociferously reading history books, assisting at his church or keeping up with friends.
Jim will be remembered for his devotion to Mentor United Methodist Church (MUMC); work as a school teacher at Bellflower Elementary; amazing woodworking he shared with all of his friends; and time as a peace corps volunteer helping the people of Brazil.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be scheduled in June.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jim’s name to Hospice of the Western Reserve, Inc., PO Box 72101, Cleveland, OH 44192-0001 or the Reed Family Endowment at Mentor United Methodist Church, 8600 Mentor Avenue, Mentor, OH 44060-5874.
The family wishes to send a special note of thanks to the staff at the Svayus Section at the Lantern of Madison for their care and compassion.
