Joan E. Knotts

Memorial services for Joan Elaine (Daugherty) Knotts, 85 will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at Willoughby United Methodist Church, 15 Public Square, Willoughby.

Mrs. Knotts passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 11, 2026.

Born June 2, 1940 in Irvona, PA she grew up in central Pennsylvania. After marriage to her high school sweetheart, they moved to Ohio and lived in Lake County for most of her adult life.

Mrs. Knotts was consecrated as a Diaconal Minister of the East Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church, and served Willoughby, Hudson and Copley United Methodist Churches as the Director of Education. She retired from active ministry after over 30 years of service.

She returned to Willoughby United Methodist where she remained an active member. Mrs. Knotts had the gift of hospitality and great attention to detail. She loved to host friends and family in her home where everything was always decorated for the appropriate holiday. She enjoyed cooking and was adventurous in trying new recipes. She also enjoyed cake decorating, needlepointing, cross stitching, crocheting and making hairpin lace. However, her true joy was her grandchildren. Together, they made many memories of going on outings, especially to the zoo, and having sleepovers at Grandma’s house.

Survivors are her husband of 67 years, George Eugene; sons, Adrian (Linda) Knotts and Brian (Kristine) Knotts; her daughter-in-law, Cheryl Knotts; grandchildren, Jason Knotts, Jessica (Juan) Gil, Ryan (Aymệ) Knotts, Jennifer Knotts, Crystal Knotts, Elyssa (Nick) Hendershot and Erik Knotts; great-grandchildren, Carlos, Marya, Thomas, Francisco, Elliott and Madeline and her brother, Chet Daugherty. She also leaves several nieces and nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Knotts and her grandson, B.J. Knotts. Her mother, Hattie, sister, Doris and brother, John are also deceased.
