John E. Papcke

John Emmett Papcke, age 80, of Euclid, Ohio, passed away on August 2, 2023. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Nancy (Scholl) Papcke, sister Marjory Branche, three daughters, Susan Fanta (Doug), Julia Papcke (John Russell), Anne Horvath (Mike), bonus son Tod Fogle (Mindy), and bonus daughter-in-law Belinda Pullins Fogle. He was a loving Grumpa to Alex, Carly, Abby, Sarah, JP, Riley, and Miles and devoted cat dad to Claire, Fritz, Sadie, and Tommy.

John was born on December 27, 1942 to Emmett and Wilma Papcke in Willoughby, OH. After graduating from Willoughby South High School in 1960, he attended Bowling Green State University where he was active in the Theta Chi fraternity. He earned his undergraduate degree and Master’s Degree in Math and History Education. After a short time as a teacher, he found his true calling in computer programming at Nationwide Insurance in Columbus, OH. He retired from Nationwide as a Director of Information Systems after 32 years.

John was an avid golfer and he enjoyed playing recreationally and in many leagues over the years. He also loved taking spontaneous long drives with his wife and visiting historical places as long as they were within driving distance. He was a lifelong Cleveland sports fan and watched as many games as he could stomach.

John is predeceased by his sister, Lois Babson, brother-in-law, James Branche and bonus son Troy Fogle.

A celebration of life will be held at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home at 4154 Clark Ave in Willoughby, OH on Friday, August 18 at 7pm. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home before the service from 5-7pm.
