Private family services will be held for John W. “Jack” Reinhardt, 96, of Willoughby.
Mr. Reinhardt passed away Thursday, July 2, 2015, at Salida Woods Assisted Living in Mentor.
Born June 4, 1919, in Cleveland, he had lived in Willoughby since 1955.
He was a United States Navy veteran serving on the USS Lexington in World War II, a Mason and a member of The First Presbyterian Church of Willoughby. He enjoyed gardening, traveling and most especially spending time with his family.
Mr. Reinhardt was a graduate of Collinwood High School, class of 1937. Throughout his life, Jack was very active in his community. He served as the At-Large City Councilman for the City of Willoughby for over four terms, and was selected twice to be President of the City Council. He was on the Willoughby- Eastlake School Board for over 16 years, and served as president of the board on two occasions. He was an active member of the South High Boosters, the Willoughby Kiwanis, Chamber of Commerce, Historical Society, and the Lake County Council on Aging. He was a past president of the Ridge Acres Civic Association and, in 2011 for his many years of service, had a street in Ridge Acres named after him. After retiring he was a volunteer at Lake West Hospital for many years.
Mr. Reinhardt worked at Parker-Hannifin Corporation for over 44 years, retiring in 1985.
Survivors are his daughter, Patricia (Eugene) Rigsby of Mentor; son, Richard "Dick" (Jo Ann) Reinhardt of Reno, Nev., and Scottsdale, Ariz.; grandchildren, Guy (Lisa) Rigsby, Susan (James) Corlett, Mark (Michelle) Rigsby, Kyle Reinhardt, and Kristin (Doug) Webb; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Evelyn Reinhardt, on January 3, 2012. His parents, Clarence and Leona (Miller) Reinhardt; brothers, Robert Reinhardt and Richard Reinhardt and sister, Ruth Aingworth, are also deceased.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 PM Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Ave., Willoughby.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to Hospice of the Western Reserve, Inc., 17876 St. Clair Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44110-2602.
