Joyce Root Laubach was born in Hamden, CT on Sept. 16, 1930. Joyce attended Colby College in Waterville Maine receiving an Associate degree as a phlebotomy technician. Shortly after graduating she move to Ohio where she met her husband, Eugene. Together they raised three children – Frank, Susan, and Katherine.
While raising her family, Joyce was busy volunteering at Mentor Woman’s Club, Mentor Garden Club, Holden Arboretum and her church of 57 years, Hope Ridge Methodist Church. Throughout the years, Joyce worked in the Mentor Public School system as well as various retail positions. After all three of the children had grown and moved away, Joyce began a rewarding career as a residential housing manager at Breckenridge Village in Willoughby, Ohio.
Later when grandchildren would visit from New England, Joyce kept them busy by taking them to various northeast Ohio attractions such as the Cleveland Indians, Nelson Ledges, and their all time favorite, Cedar Point.
As an avid gardener, Joyce spent many hours volunteering at Holden Arboretum and when her daughters would visit from out of state, it was Holden where Joyce would bring them to enjoy the beauty of God’s creation. Joyce passed her love of gardening on to her daughters and then onto her granddaughters.
Joyce and Gene spent their retirement years traveling internationally as well as New England where both their daughters reside with their families. They often visited their son, Frank, who lived in AZ, NV, and WA before his death in 2012.
Joyce is survived by her daughters, Susan and her husband, Phil Treide and Kathy and her husband, Gary Nye all of MA. She was a loving grandmother to Alex and Rachel Treide and Jennifer and Conner Nye.
A celebration of Joyce’s life will be held Saturday, Sept. 30, 2023 at 11:30 AM at Hope Ridge United Methodist Church. Family members will be available to greet visitors at 10:45 and a luncheon will follow the service.
