Karen Ann “Canoe” Kleifeld passed on March 7, 2025. She was 85. She grew up in Timberlake and lived most of her life in Willoughby. An avid reader who loved cats, bridge, theater, traveling, casinos and sports. She coached little league in her teens, played semi-professional softball in her sporting years, and was a lifelong devotee of the Indians and Browns. Karen attended every Browns game for 54 years (except two) in the seats she inherited from her father, John H. Kleifeld (Ruth) of Kleifeld Restaurant fame. She became a Pet Sitter in retirement and loved each of her animal friends as well as their owners. As a devoted community member, she played an active role in Willoughby Frontier Days for decades. Karen is survived by her two sisters, Kathie Hammond (David) and Debbie Slayton (John, deceased). Nephew Brett Slayton (Meghann) Oliver and Avery; and Niece Lauren Slayton. She is also survived by numerous beloved friends and families who adopted her over the years and filled her life with love and support. Her unabashed kindness, deep loyalty and desire to be of help to anyone in need will be missed by us all. A memorial will be held in May at the Chagrin River Metropolitan Park pavilion. TBA. In her honor, please keep feeding the birds!
