Kathryn I. Thompson

Kathryn Irene Thompson, 84, of Kirtland, went home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Monday, July 31, 2017 at Kirtland Rehabilitation and Care Center in Kirtland.

A memorial service for her will be held August 12, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Willoughby Hills Friends Church, 2846 SOM Center Rd., Willoughby Hills, Ohio. Visitation for family and friends will precede the service at the church at 10:00 AM.

Born September 24, 1932 in East Cleveland, she had lived in Kirtland since 2010. She was a long-time resident of Cleveland Heights, Ohio and later Willowick, Ohio.

She was a birthright member of Willoughby Hills Friends Church and served her Lord in music, teaching, discipling, secretarial, and in coordinating myriad activities and ministries within the Church.

Miss Thompson graduated from Cleveland Bible College, now Malone University of Canton, Ohio, in 1954 with a Bachelor’s of Childhood Evangelism. Having then received her Registered Nursing Diploma from Aultman Hospital School of Nursing in 1961, she served her Lord as an RN in various positions throughout her life initially as Student Health Nurse and Secretary to the Dean of Students at Malone College in Canton, Ohio. In 1964, she fulfilled her life-long dream by serving as a missionary nurse at Friends Mission Hospital in Chhatarpur, M.P., India and as Head Nurse at Nur Munzil Psychiatric Hospital in Lucknow, U.P., India. Returning home in 1969 she served as a Psychiatric Nurse at University Hospitals Hanna Pavilion, and Pathways of Lake County. After her retirement from nursing in 1993 she served as a secretary at Willoughby Hills Friends Church.

She is survived by her siblings, Clyde H. (Dianne) Thompson of Kirtland, OH, and Ralph E. (Nancy J.) Thompson of Indianapolis IN. She was a doting aunt to her 11 nieces and nephews, and 14 grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Howard and Gladys Alleen(Maberry) Thompson and siblings, James E.(Barbara) and Walter M.(Nancy) Thompson.

Private family burial will be in South Kirtland Cemetery.
