Lauren M. Smith

October 9, 1960 — January 31, 2023

Lauren Marie Smith of Madison passed away on January 31, 2023. She was born on October 9, 1960 in Painesville to the late Oliver and Louise (Benjamin) Smith. Lauren is survived by her three siblings: Benjamin (Joan) Smith of Willoughby, Rebecca (Ken) Vergara of Westlake, and Susan (Gary) Davidson of Grafton. She also leaves aunts, an uncle, cousins, and nieces and nephews along with their families.

Lauren attended Broadmoor School in Mentor and later worked at and took part in activities at the Vocational Guidance Center at Deepwood in Mentor. As a teenager, she took part in an equestrian program for people with disabilities. Her family would like to thank all of the many individuals at the Lake County Board of Developmental Disabilities / Deepwood, who worked with Lauren throughout the years, for their guidance, care, and support. The family would also like to express their gratitude to Eastwood Residential Living in Madison and the staff who work there for all that they did in caring for Lauren the past few years.

Lauren was very fortunate to have a loving and caring family. They were all very involved in her life in many different ways. She loved spending time with her parents and siblings at their family cottage in Madison-on-the-Lake. She always talked about going to the “boat.” Lauren also loved the family dog, a Golden Retriever named Daisy. Conversations with her always included her buddy Daisy!

Lauren had a great sense of humor and could always make all who knew her laugh. She was very social and spunky and loved being with people. Lauren changed her parents’ and siblings’ lives for the better because of who she was. Their kindness and compassion for others who may be different was and is because of Lauren. She brought much joy to her family and all who knew her and will be greatly missed.

Memorial donations in Lauren’s name may be made to the Deepwood Foundation using the link deepwoodfoundation.org or by mailing a check to the following address: Deepwood Foundation, 8121 Deepwood Blvd., Mentor, OH 44060.
