Marjorie 'Margie' Donato, 81, passed away unexpectedly on June 14, 2024. She lived in Ohio most of her life, where she and her husband met and raised their family. She earned a degree in Cosmetology; and though she never entered the field, she held license to do so for over 30 years. She worked for the Lake County News Herald as a district manager and also voluntarily chaperoned hundreds of children on countless carrier trips while in that role. Margie briefly left the workforce in 1984 and began volunteering as a candy striper at Lake West Hospital. She retired from Royal Appliance in 1998 and worked as a volunteer in her later years for Lake County Council on Aging.
In earlier years, she enjoyed camping, attending her children's sporting events, and bowling. She was a den mother and troop leader. She always loved spending time with family, reading, anything Elvis, and cheesecake. Her children were her life and the words of Jesus her guiding light.
She was married to Bailey 'Bud' Donato for 43 years, until his passing in 2005. Now together forever, his remains will be interred with her next to their son Gregory Donato, who went to Heaven in 1984. She was also preceded in death by her mother June Cogar, brother Ronald Cogar, sisters Bonnie Taylor and Elizabeth Burns, mother-in-law Willa Skidmore, brothers-in-law Frank (Shirley) Donato, Lewis Skidmore, and Joe Skidmore.
She will be missed beyond measure here on earth by her children Thomas Donato and Kimberly (Adam) Mason. Having her as their mother was a gift from God, and they will carry her love with them forever. Her constant companion Romeo Donato grieves her loss, as well. She is also survived by her sister Norma Smith and many loving nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank George and Terry Ditchcreek for always looking out for Margie after Bud's passing. She treasured their friendships dearly.
Graveside services will be held on June 20, at 11:00 AM in Willoughby Memorial Gardens, located at 38650 Lakeshore Blvd, Willoughby, OH 44094. All who knew Margie and wish to attend are welcome. Pastor Kenneth Donato will officiate at the service.
