Services for Melissa Susan (Derrick) Solt, 45, of Eastlake, will be at 8 PM on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Avenue, Willoughby. Pastor Larry A. Pozza will officiate at the service.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 PM on Wednesday, prior to the service.
Melissa passed away suddenly on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at her home.
Born November 20, 1971 in Painesville, she was lifelong Lake County resident.
She was a graduate of Riverside High School in Painesville, class of 1990 where she participated in the choir and theatre programs and was also a graduate of Kent State University, Magna Cum Laude, class of 1995 and a member of Erieside Church on the Boulevard in Willowick where she sang with the choir and praise team. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, charity work and entertaining her large family.
Melissa had a contagious smile and infectious laugh that lit up every room she entered. She was at her happiest surrounded by her friends and family, and especially her husband, Brian, who was the love of her life.
Melissa was an avid dog lover who adored her puppy, Peanut. If there was a moment that was special to anyone, she made sure that she was always there. She was a truly an angel on earth.
Melissa was employed as a claims specialist at Progressive Insurance for the past 12 years.
Survivors are her husband of three years, Brian; siblings, Kevin Derrick, Paul Derrick, Marjorie (Brad) Carroll, Joni D’Amico (Rick), Kelly Derrick (Julie Cates), Maryellen Derrick, Dawn (Mike) Zivcic and Joe Derrick (Amy Hausman). She also leaves her nieces and nephews, Joe (Karissa) Strailey, Ryan (Rebecca) Strailey, Jordan Derrick (fiancé, Andrew Kesselmayer), Kelsey Derrick, Dominic Powell, Nick Sivillo, Mark Derrick (god son), Kayleigh Zivcic (god daughter) and Hally Zivcic; great nieces and nephews, Kennedy Strailey, Bodhi Strailey, Paige Strailey (god daughter) and Aidan Kesselmayer. She also leaves her mother-in-law, Audrey Moore; brother-in-law, Paul Solt and grandmother-in-law, Dorothy Solt as well as many aunts, uncles and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbert J. and Sylvia F. (Largen) Derrick and father-in-law, Paul Solt.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, The American Cancer Society or The American Heart Association.
