Michael Sean Barnes

Michael “Sean” Barnes passed on to the next realm on Sunday September 26, 2021 at the age of 53.

He would want everyone to know that what started as what he thought was an annoyance caused by a sharp tooth became cancer that first took his tongue and ultimately took his life.

Sean IS the best and nicest man you could ever have the pleasure of knowing. He helped everyone whenever they asked, be they family or barely known. Sean’s passion was infectious as he always had a joke to keep things humorous or a huge bear hug to make you feel special.
He loved playing disc golf all over the Ohio and Pennsylvania area (being a benefactor of the Painesville Disc Golf Course), going on various brewery tours, and was an avid online gamer. Sean was always learning about how to do things better, he built his current house and its garage from the ground up as well as shelving, steps at his stepdaughter’s house, and many things for his mother and step-grand-daughter. He always treated all people with the decency they deserved.

He is survived by his wife, Julie Barnes; mother, Lynnette Gutman; sister, Michelle (Bud) Csepi; grandmother, Janet Grinsted; nieces, Angela (Edmiston) McMurray (Dave and Brooke); Ashley Edmiston; numerous Grinsted aunts, uncles, and cousins; step “kids”, John, Jeannie and Jessie (Bill); step grandchildren, Krystle, Stephanie, Quinn and Sydney, Jr.; and step great grandchildren, Cameron and Jameson.

Sean was preceded in death by his father, Edwin (Mike) Barnes; grandfather, Clyde Grinsted, Jr.; nephew, Michael Miller and stepfather, Arthur (Artie) Gutman.

He will be greatly missed by a myriad friends and “family” everywhere. Sean will be always in the hearts and minds of those he touched. The family wishes to request a donation to Hospice of the Western Reserve in the memory of Michael “Sean” Barnes in lieu of flowers, if so desired.

A celebration will be held on October 5, 2021 from 3pm until 7pm at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home in Downtown Willoughby.
