Mildred L. Swanger

Memorial services for Mildred L. (Lehman) Swanger, 102, of Willoughby Hills, will be at 3:30 PM on Sunday, November 1, 2015 at Willoughby United Methodist Church, 15 Public Square, Willoughby. The Rev. Donald R. Perks will officiate at the service.

Mrs. Swanger passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 3, 2015 after a brief illness.

Born January 29, 1913 in Apple Creek, Ohio, she has lived in Willoughby Hills and Willoughby for the past 75 years.

She was a graduate and valedictorian of Apple Creek High School, class of 1931 where she met her high-school sweetheart and future husband, Loren, who was the salutatorian of the same class. They were married on March 7, 1936 and celebrated 61 years together before his passing on April 27, 1997.
She was also a graduate of the Fairview Park Hospital School of Nursing in 1934.

Mildred and Loren were well known for their extensive flower gardens at the top of the Eagle Road hill at the corner of Riviera Ridge Road in Willoughby Hills. She was also a longtime member of Willoughby United Methodist Church, the Burroughs Nature Club, the Willoughby Hills Grange and the former Willoughby Hills Valley Club.

Mrs. Swanger was employed as a Registered Nurse at the former Huron Road Hospital, Euclid General Hospital and then served as the office nurse for Dr. Alfred Mahan in Willoughby, until he retired.

Survivors are her children, Jean L. (Jenny Gluck) Swanger of Syracuse, NY and Lee A. Swanger of Coral Gables, FL and granddaughter, Margarette (Danny) McConnell of Willoughby. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Loren, her parents, Peter and Anna Lehman and her brother, George Lehman.
