Naomi Ruth Walters Fishel, 89, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, April 23, 2025.
Naomi met her husband, Paul Richard Fishel, on a blind date when he was serving in the U.S. Navy and stationed in Charleston, South Carolina. They married in 1954 and moved back to northeast Ohio shortly afterwards, where they settled in Willoughby and raised a family. Naomi and Paul enjoyed traveling, and over the years took several road trips to explore the United States, and also went on various cruises, including one where they visited sites in and around the Mediterranean that Paul had seen while in the Navy.
Naomi was a long-time member of Willoughby Baptist Church (now Willoughby Bible Church), where she sang in the choir, taught adult Sunday School classes, and served as church clerk for many years. Naomi enjoyed spending time with her family, playing the piano, reading, sewing, and gardening. She was a member of the Lakeland Civic Chorus for many years, and was quite interested in her family genealogy, incorporating research for that into many of her and Paul’s travels.
Naomi is survived by her children, Paul Richard Jr. of Columbus, Suzanne (Eddie) Carrigg of Eastlake, and Phyllis Jakubic of Jefferson; her grandchildren, Cliff (Molly) Carrigg, Tim (Erin) Jakubic, Brian (Cami) Carrigg, and Alex Jakubic; her great-grandchildren, Bentley, Charlotte, Brandon and Griffin; sister, Carolyn (Ed) Hawkins; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Fishel and numerous nieces and nephews.
Naomi is pre-deceased by her husband, Paul Richard Sr., her parents, Howard M. and Jennie Walters; sister, Nancy; and brother, Howard M. II; sister-in-law, Jimmie Lee Walters; brother-in-law, Phillip Fishel; sister-in-law, Jean Bowers; son-in-law, Jeff Jakubic, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive visitors at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Ave., Willoughby from 10:00 - 11:30 AM on Friday, May 9, 2025, with service immediately following at 11:30 AM. Pastor Scott Kennedy of Shoreline Church in Willoughby will officiate. Private burial services will be held at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens.
