A gathering to celebrate the life of Clarence M. “Noel” Barber, Jr., 85, of Concord Township, will be held from 11 AM – 3 PM on Monday, June 27, 2022 at Lake MetroParks Lake Erie Bluffs Shelter, 3301 Lane Road, Perry.
There will be a memorial service honoring Noel beginning at 11:30 AM in the shelter.
Mr. Barber passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at his home.
Born December 25, 1936 in Cleveland, he has lived in Concord Township for the past 40 years with his loving wife.
He was an active member of Mentor United Methodist Church, taught Sunday school, served on the Staff-Parish Relations and Finance Committees and multiple fund raisers throughout the years. Noel was a past president and member of the Kirtland Kiwanis, a Cub Scout Pack leader and was a classic car enthusiast and restorer. Woodworking and model airplanes also gave him much joy, as did his family and friends.
Noel was most proud of his time as a field announcer for the Kirtland Hornets, followed by the Perry Pirates.
He then moved into floor announcing for the Perry boys’ and girls’ basketball teams, and other events that came to the school. He was employed as a supervisor for the Perry Local Schools PAC, and retired for the fourth time, at 80 years old, after 20 plus years of dedicated service.
His adult working career started at Hendershot and Smith in heat treating sales. Then, he moved into auto and commercial vehicle sales at the former Berkett Williams and Jackshaw Chevrolet dealerships. Following his dream to own his own business, he purchased Mentor Heisley Racquet Club’s fitness center, followed by becoming the owner Tuff-Kote Dinol / Ziebart franchises.
Survivors are his wife of 40 years, Evelyn L. (Gilreath) Barber; children, Kirt (Robin) Barber, Kathryn (John) Staple, Richard (Amy) Barber and Ryan (Kayla) Barber; grandchildren, Kyle (Gina) Barber, Brooks, Molly, Ava, Connor and Triston; and precious new great-grandson, Oliver. His siblings are Janet (Rev. William) Smith, Ruth (Charles) Florian and Judy (Richard) Thomas. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence M. Sr. and Ruth (Christian) Barber.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to the Holden Arboretum, 9550 Sperry Road, Kirtland, OH 44094.
