Richard Drake Balcam

Richard Drake “Dick” Balcam Sr., passed away June 2, 2021. Cherished husband of Dorothy (Golobic) Balcam; dearest father of Shari (Michael) Elersich and Richard D. (Nanette) Balcam Jr.; devoted grandfather of Jessica L. Elersich and step-grandfather of Alexes M. Sherwood; dear brother of Elaine Balcam; loving son of the late Fred D. and Gwendolyn M. (Gethin) Balcam. Richard fought a courageous battle with mesothelioma. Richard was born May 21, 1936 in Cleveland and spent most of his life in Willoughby Hills where he built his wife’s dream house. He served in the United States Navy and was a member of the IBEW Local 38. His passions included fishing in Quebec with his father and son, and later in life he enjoyed traveling to Alaska, Maine, and South Carolina with his wife. As a skilled electrician, he was superintendent of all electric work for The Society, Ohio Bell, and SOHIO buildings in Cleveland. He was a generous and driven man who worked hard to provide for his family and shared his vast knowledge with many. Although tough and opinionated, he had a tender and compassionate side that was known only to few. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and uncle who will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Private family services will be held at a later date.
