A celebration of life service for Richard E. “Dick” Hanson, 84, of Mentor, OH will be 5 PM Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Avenue, Willoughby.
Family will receive friends from 3-5 PM on Thursday, prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Hanson passed away December 7, 2016 in Mentor, OH, having been born October 7, 1932 in Bradford, PA.
Richard was a Penn State University graduate. After a 34 year career as an electrical engineer specializing in outdoor lighting and later robotics, Richard retired from Westinghouse Electric. His job took him to Cleveland, OH, Vicksburg, MS, and Pittsburgh, PA.
During retirement he enjoyed traveling with his wife, Sue. They wintered in Arizona for many years. Hawaii and Disney World were also two of his favorite destinations.
He enjoyed over 50 years of camping, traveling in his motor home and visits to the family hunting camp in Bradford, PA, and was an original member of the Willowick Campers Club.
Richard was a religious man who had most recently been attending New Promise Church in Kirtland with his wife, Sue.
He was a caring, hardworking, selfless gentleman, who had a great sense of humor and who loved his family, especially his two granddaughters.
Survivors are his son Steven Hanson; daughter, Susan (Dan) Zappola; granddaughters, Danielle Zappola and Jennifer (Jon) Sustar; brothers, William Hanson and Jack (Gloria) Hanson. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and their families.
His beloved wife of 61 years, Sue A. (Leaster) Hanson joined him in eternal peace on December 19, 2016. His parents, George and Marjorie Hanson and sisters, Lois Finzel and Harriet Hultberg are also deceased.
