Richard E. Toole

Services for Richard E. Toole, 93, of Mentor, will be at 10 AM on Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Avenue, Willoughby.

Richard passed away Sunday afternoon, October 25, 2015, surrounded by his loving family.

Born April 28, 1922 in Cleveland to the late James and Barbara (Stimler) Toole, he was 20-year resident of Willowick before moving to Mentor in 1979.

Richard was a World War II United States Army Air Forces veteran, serving as a radio operator in the Philippines. He was an avid Cleveland Indians “Tribe” fan, an expert Sudoku player, enjoyed horse racing and his computer.

He met his wife Dorothy (Schul) in Wichita, KS during his military training, and they were wed in 1944 in Charleston, SC. Upon his return from the war in 1946, the young couple settled in Cleveland where he returned to work at the former White Motor Company, retiring in 1975 after many years of service.

Survivors are his children, James Toole (Sandra Miller); Kathleen (Robert) Lakins and Barbara (Thomas) Scott; daughter-in-law, Taryn (Ammerman); grandchildren, Kris (Mike) Streza; David Lakins (Mary Lee Holian); Justin (Maria) Lakins; Meagan (Mark) Bellan; Michael Scott (Abby Andrews); Claire Toole (Daniel Diaz); Shawn Toole and Scott Toole. He also leaves great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Dorothy, on March 11, 2003 and his beloved son, Gregory on April 14, 2004. His siblings, James, John, Margaret and Dorothy Toole are also deceased.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 PM on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at the funeral home. Final resting place will be in Western Reserve Memorial Gardens, Chester Township.
