Robert James Houston

Funeral services for Robert J. “Bob” Houston, 78, of Eastlake, will be7 PM Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Davis-Babcock Funeral Home, 4154 Clark Ave., Willoughby.
The family will receive friends from 3-7 PM Tuesday, prior to the service at the funeral home.
With faith in his heart, and family at his side, Bob passed away at Hospice House Cleveland on Thursday evening, January 11, 2018.
Bob was born on September 6, 1939, in Sharon PA. He is a proud graduate of Willoughby Union High School, class of 1957. He is a graduate of Army Officer Candidate Training School, and later graduated from Lakeland Community College, class of 1995.
A financial educator, he worked for Consumer Credit Counseling, WECO, and became involved in what he realized was his life calling: providing business and financial education through Families Moving Forward with Project Hope.
His faith has been his first and foremost guiding principle, and the relationships he made while a member of Willoughby Hills Friends Church were integral to the beliefs he lived by: Faith, Family, Homeownership.
He is a 10-year U.S. Army veteran of the cold war, serving in the Cleveland Air defense Nike Sites in the 1960’s. He served in the Ohio National Guard, and later in the Ohio Military Reserve.
He is survived by his wife of 7 years, the love of his life, Betty L Houston; his children, Cheryl Houston Michulka and husband Daniel Michulka, Robert James Houston Jr., Susan Lynn Meltvedt, and David Andrew Houston, step daughter Lee Grieco and husband Jeff, step son Robert Gorgon and partner Pam Helmetz. He also leaves behind 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, their Pappa’s best blessings and a brother-in-law, Robert Jevec.
He is predeceased by his parents, Vera C. Stillwagon Houston and Robert Lee Houston, his brother, Richard Paul Houston, and his sister, Mary Margaret “Peggy” Swalley.
Private family interment will be held in the family plot at Oakwood Cemetery in Sharon, Pennsylvania at a later date.
Following in his path, the family would like to extend our thanks to the many people that provided loving care and support through his final days.
